Handling of Natural Disasters

In cases of natural disasters (disasters directly caused by natural phenomena such as earthquakes, flooding, volcanic eruptions, and typhoons), the suspension of service or major delays of public transportation, or other unforeseen situations, the methods for handling cases that affect the implementation of entrance, advancement, non-first-year entrance, and exam completion are as follows:

Standards for the delay or cancellation of exams due to natural disasters
  1. If there is an official proclamation of a heavy rain, flooding, gale winds, heavy snow, or blizzard warning for the city of Kunitachi, the judgment criteria are as follows:
    1. If a warning is ongoing as of 7 a.m., the exams scheduled for that day will be canceled.
    2. If exams are scheduled to start in the afternoon, the exams scheduled for that day will be canceled if a warning is ongoing as of 11 a.m.
    3. If a warning is issued after the start of exams, please follow the instructions of the Exam Implementation Headquarters (established within the Graduate School of Language and Society office).
  2. If there is an official proclamation of a warning pursuant to the provisions of the Act on Special Measures Concerning Countermeasures for Large-Scale Earthquakes, the judgment criteria are as follows:
    1. If a warning is ongoing as of 7 a.m., all exams scheduled for that day will be canceled.
    2. If exams are scheduled to start in the afternoon, the exams scheduled for that day will be canceled if a warning is ongoing as of 11 a.m.
    3. If a warning is issued after the start of exams, please follow the instructions of the Exam Implementation Headquarters.
  3. If service is suspended on the portions of the JR Chuo Line and JR Nambu Line around the city of Kunitachi (below: "the segments of both lines") simultaneously because of a natural disaster, the judgment criteria are as follows. If either of these line segments is in operation, no special measures will be taken.
    1. If service is suspended for the segments of both lines as of 7 a.m., exams scheduled for that day will be canceled.
    2. If exams are scheduled to start in the afternoon, the exams scheduled for that day will be canceled if service is suspended for the segments of both lines as of 11 a.m.
    3. If service is suspended for the segments of both lines after the start of exams, please follow the instructions of the Exam Implementation Headquarters.
    4. If the segments of both lines are in operation but with severe delays, make sure to pick up a "chien shomeisho" (delay certificate) issued by the train company and bring it with you. After arriving at the examination site, please follow the instructions of the Exam Implementation Headquarters.
