What Kind of People We Want (Official Admission Policy)

Master's program; "Language and Society Division (1st division)"

The 1st division in the Graduate School of Language and Society (GENSHA) seeks to attract students who have vivid interest in languages, literature, schools of thought, art, and various forms of media. Our attitude toward research and education attempts to pose new challenges with free ideas without being constrained by the existing framework.

In the 1st division, we welcome people with following purposes:

Master's program; "Japanese Language/Japanese Culture Division (2nd Division)" (The course conducted in collaboration with Hitotsubashi University and National Institution for Japanese Language and Linguistics (NINJAL))

The 2nd division in the GENSHA seeks to attract students with a keen interest in and awareness of Japanese linguistic education, languages, society, and cultures. Our attitude toward research and education in the 2nd division attaches importance to specialty and interdisciplinary topics based on the most advanced research on Japanese languages and linguistics, and practical Japanese language education supported by the collaboration with NINJAL.

The doctoral program of GENSHA

The 1st division in the GENSHA seeks to attract students who have vivid interest in languages, literature, schools of thought, art, and various forms of media. Our attitude toward research and education attempts to pose new challenges with free ideas without being constrained by the existing framework. In the doctoral program, we welcome students who want to acquire high expertise and a wide range of interdisciplinary skills as researchers and who have the motivation to advance their unique research studies.

In the 2nd division, we aim to train researchers and educators in fields related to Japanese language education who can globally succeed based on the experience acquired from the tradition of small sized-seminar settings in Hitotsubashi University and in collaboration with NINJAL. In doctoral program, we welcome people with motivations to gain highly specialized knowledge and extensive interdisciplinary skills, and to advance unique research on Japanese Language and its culture.
